As the HIM director, you have been assigned the responsibility of revising the outdated information management plan. Although the joint commission conducts unannounced surveys, you know that you can expect a visit in about a year. The information management plan has to revised and in place before the surveyors arrive. You only have six months in which to have the new plan developed, approved, and implemented. Obviously you cannot do this alone. You do not know how physical therapy and other departments use information. After reflection, you decide to make each department head responsible for developing the portion of the information management plan applicable to them. You will write the overall information management portion of the plan as well as the HIM department's portion. You decide to have a training session for all of the department heads who will be involved. There are 30 people to be trained on what needs to be included, the time table, and the format.

1. Develop a project plan for the revision of the information management plan.

  • What steps need to be done?
  • Who is responsible for each?
  • How long will you allocate to each step?

2. Develop a program evaluation review technique (PERT) chart of the project.
