Answer: Phototherapy means therapy in which light is being used for the treatment. In phototherapy UV light is being used for the therapy. This therapy is generally used for the skin related diseases as well as in new born suffering from jaundice. UV light therapy is also used in vitiligo to stimulate the skin’s pigment-producing cells i.e. melanocytes. This therapy is for particular time being and not used for prolonged period.

The non pharmacological somatic therapy include only electroconvulsive therapy. This therapy is used to treat the patient suffering from psychological disorder. It has been found beneficial in mental disorder treatments. But the proper efficacy of this treatment is still not yet discovered.

The transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) devices which is used to deliver a pulse every 3 seconds, were developed as diagnostic purpose for the neurologist. This device can provide pulse from 1 to 20Hz.

The vagus nerve stimulation device is implanted in the left chest wall to a subcutaneous generator, a bipolar lead is coiled around the left vagus nerve near carotid artery. This stimulates the vagus nerve and hence used for the bipolar disorder treatment.

In deep brain stimulation the electrodes are implanted bilaterally having four stimulation sites by giving local anesthesia. Beneath the clavicle, subcutaneously a pulse generator is implanted which is connected to electrodes through an extension. This generate impulsion in the brain.
