To reduce the risk of neural tube defects.

Folic acid is recommended for the ladies who are pregnant ,taking 400 mcg folic acid before and during pregnancy can prevent serious brain and spinal cord defect,such as spina bifida, meningomyocele,etc. It is the synthetic form of vitamin B9, which is also called folate, taking it during pregnancy or even before pregnancy reduces the risk of neural tube defects in the new born.

It is very important for ladies during antenatal period to know about supplements,their side effects and uses.
