In 'Awakenings' movie sayer learns about levodopa(L dopa) for Parkinson's treatment, he tried L dopa for his catatonic patient Leonard... He selects Leonard for the first L.dopa treatment. Leonard awakens from his catatonic state and he becomes conscious, but Leonard experience side effects with L dopa like convulsions, paranoia and some psychotic behavior. Leonard returned to the catatonic state again, Sayer this treatment for his other patients also they also experience the same. L.dopa considered to be a possible treatment for encephalitis lethargica(EL) patients, it improved the quality of life with short living. Awakening seems to be accurate for EL patients with L dopa concern. L dopa increased their physical and cognitive ability first, later with side effects. L dopa increased the quality of life for the patient to short-lived success. this stimulates viewers' sense indirectly to the possibility of catatonic patients' short life worth with L dopa treatment.
