Procedure is Lumbar puncture .

Diagnostic lumbar puncture is a procedure which is done to remove a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid for laboratory testing, and is reported with CPT code 62270.

ICD -10 code is G 97.1

Procedure category - neurological investigation

Body part - spinal tap is done between L3 -L4 or L4 - L5 , cerebrospinal fluid is taken from the subarachnoid space .

Appointment type - on out patient department basis

Local lidocaine is given before the procedure is done to anaesthetize the area . Spinal needle is used to take the CSF from the subarachnoid space . Patient is placed in left lateral position for the procedure.
