Answer #1

Nursing intervention for acute or chronic pain that does not require doctors order are the non pharmacological methods

Non pharmacological methods are those methods in which medications like analgesics etc are not used for pain relief instead non pharmacological methods are used to relieve pain . Before using this techniques ,the nurse should undergo a thorough assessment of pain -its location ,severity , causes increasing the pain ,the position at which pain occurs , any injury ,etc . Then apply the non pharmacological methods to receive the pain for this doctors order is not required .

Non pharmacological methods are :-

- Massage = helps to improve blood circulation and reduces pain and provide comfort

- Guided imagery = it is a relaxation method in which the patient is guided to imagine and hence his attention from pain is diverted and provide a quiet environment

- Diversion method = is used to divert the attention of the patient from pain

- Deep breathing = increases oxygenation and blood supply and relaxes the patient hence, reduces pain

- physical therapy = if a person was earlier active and has been bed ridden ,even moving a hand also would be relaxing to him

- Gel packs = using packs hot or cold to alleviate pain

The nurses need to be trained about the steps of doing massage ,physical therapy , use of gel packs ,and deep breathing because doing all the above methods in an inappropriate manner will add on to the pain of patient than relieving it .
