In American history, Dix is perhaps better known for her work as a social reformer in the decades before the war. She is famous as the woman who got state legislatures to set up the first organized mental asylums in the country. The failure of the Tuke’s therapy of moral treatment due to the overcrowded asylums has led to the launch of special and private hospitals for people with mental Illness by Dorothea Dix
There were thirty two public hospitals established and were serving many mental disorder patients wall the aid of state funding. The patients were taken appropriate care as per their mental condition and the services were appreciated for taking care of the mentally poor people wall personal attention through health centers.
