Answer #1

In this case, the patient is taking Omeprazole to treat GERD - 40mg/day as single dose or once in a day (OD). But the available dose in the bottle is 20mg.

1 tablet contains 20mg, but the patient is taking 40mg/day. So, 2 (20mgx2=40mg) tablets daily.

The bottle contains 20mg of omepraole and is 48 in numbers. So, to calculate how many days of dosage a bottle will provide is,

Days supply = ( Quantity dispensed \div dose x Frequency)

(48 \div 2 x 1)

(48\div2) = 24 days. So, the drug should lasts for 24 days.

2. Promethazine:

The individual dose is 12.5 mg

Frequency = administered every 6 hours (4 doses in a day).

24 hours is present in one day. So, the medicine is administered every 6 hours in a day. So, it will be 24\div6 = 4 doses in a day. For 7 days, the patient gets to about 28 doses of promethazine (7 days x 4 doses/ day = 28 doses)

In a day, the patient gets to about 50mg of promethazine (12.5mg x 4 doses/day = 50mg).

So, in 7 days, the patient gets to about 350mg of promethazine.
