Yes, pregnancy weight gain is different from other weight gains.

During pregnancy the development or enlargement of uterus, growing fetus and placenta, amniotic fluid and normal increasing in body fat will be taken place.

During in pregnancy the maternal hormones and some other physiological adjustments will be taken place.

Basal matobolic rate also increases, so they the mother may take more amount of food to her needs.

The amount of food should be stored in energy form to supply nutrients to growing fetus and placenta ect.

So what ever the food taken by mother should useful to provide energy to mother and baby by storing in fat form,.

For production of milk also it is useful.

After the delivery the amount of fat may decreases compare to the normal weight gain people.
