PRECAUTIONS

ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES

combined oral contraceptive pills-

  • should not take if breastfeeding, obese or aged above 35 years.
  • consumption of contraceptives increases hypertension and diabetes mellites so contraindicated in those with cardiovascular diseases.
  • withhold immediately if leg, chest or abdominal pain

progesterone only pills-

  • contraindicated in patients with malabsorption syndrome, functional ovarian cysts, past ectopic pregnancy, and history of breast cancer.
  • should avoid those with vaginal bleeding, in case of any arterial disease and hepatic disease.
  • increased risk of ovarian cyst.

HEPATIC DYSFUNCTION

  • vaccines can be taken if they are not immunised previously against hepatitis A and B. Also vaccines against flu once in a year, pneumonia, diphtheria and tetanus(every 10 years)and pertusses.
  • avoid the use of alcohol or over the counter medications such as acetaminophen and other substance which can cause harm to the liver.
  • do not take any medication without the prescription of the physician.
