Lyme disease is a vector born disease caused by tics. The causative organism is Borrelia bacterium. The disease is characterized by bull's-eye pattern rashes on the skin, flu-like symptoms and joint pain and weakness in the limbs. It can be curable by use of antibiotics.

The common antibiotics used are amoxicillin from penicillin family, doxycycline from the tetracycline family, cefuroxime axetile, cefotaxim and ceftriaxone from cephalosporin family.If the patient is not tolerating these medication, azithromycin, clarithromycin, or erythromycin from the macrolid family can be used to treat lyme disease.
