Machado Joseph Disease is an autosomal dominant ataxia. It is a neurodegenerative disease which is progressive in nature. It is caharacterised by lack of muscle coordination, balance and control.

The two type of risk factors associated with the disease are modifiable and non modifiable risk factors:

Non modifiable risk factors:

2. Family history

3. Familial factors like europeans are more prone to the disease

4. Triplet birth

Modifiable factors:

1. Viral infections

2. Exposure to toxins

3. Passing of viral infection from mother to fetus

4. Cerebrovascular injury

5. Bacterial infection
