Adrenergic agonist are the drugs which stimulates the adrenergic receptors and thus stimulates the action of sympathetic nervous system.

Adrenergic blockers are the drug which inhibits the function of adrenergic receptors. Certain blood vessels will remain open and muscles became relaxed.

Albuterol is a bronchodilator, in asthma patients it works in the airways by opening breathing passages and relaxing muscles.

Prior to administering the medication to check for any allergy for this kind of medicine, and enquire about heart problem, diabetes, hypertension, seizure and low levels of potassium in the blood.

The patient may be having sedation with the use of the medicine, and it will be even worse if he is using any drugs such as cannabis or alcohol.

The effects of the medicine are not sudden unless and until it was used as an inhalation, but later there will be gradual decrease in the breathing difficulty it can be observed with absence of wheezing on auscultation.

Nursing intervention should include to monitor for any adverse reactions, any allergy for the medicine. Also, the side effects of the medicine such as sedation. Also check the vitals especially respiratory rate and rhythm, address the patients concerns regarding the medicine.

Patient education mainly include it is a type of medicine it has the side effects of sedation, so whenever using the drug don’t go for any work such as driving or working with mechanical equipment’s which needs high concentration. Also don’t use any other drugs or substances such as cannabis, alcohol etc along with the medicine.
