# Hypnotics are commonly known as sleeping pills. It belongs to the class of psychoactive drugs and its primary function is to induce sleep . It is used in the treatment of insomnia, or for surgical anesthesia.

15. Anxiolytics or anti-anxiety drugs, are a category of drugs used to prevent anxiety and to treat anxiety . These are used to treat symptoms of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder and social phobia.

18. a) The therapeutic outcome of antiepileptic drugs is to decrease the frequency, severity of seizures. Goal of the therapy is to maximize the quality of life by eliminating seizures while minimising adverse drug effects .

18.b) Patient teaching for someone on Dilantin :-

-Shake suspension well for 5 minutes.

-Monitor serum drug levels.

-Safety: Protect from environmental hazards, driving.

-Warn female patients taking oral contraceptives to use additional contraception.

-Warn patient to avoid certain herbs, alcohol, and other CNS depressants.

-Warn patient not to discontinue abruptly.

-Patient will need frequent oral hygiene and dental check-ups. (Oral hygiene: use soft toothbrush to prevent gum irritation and bleeding)

-Diabetics must monitor glucose level.

-Tell each patient to take drug at same time every day.

-Warn of harmless pinkish red or brown urine.

-Teach patient to report sore throat, bruising, nosebleeds.(Sore throat, bruising, and nosebleeds may be indicative of adverse reaction of blood dyscrasia)

-Encourage patient to wear medical-alert identification.
