Answer #1

CDSA - Clostridium difficile selective agar is the suitable medium for culturing the organism Clostridium difficile.

It is an obligate anaerobe, which means it can die in the presence of oxygen.Initially itself it is difficult to differentiate it as aerobes or anaerobes. So it takes a series of steps.

It is incubated both aerobically and anaerobically. It is incubated in both for rapid detection of growth.Incubating in one condition may result in error.hence it is incubating in both conditions.

It seems to difficult to find whether it is an aerobic or anaerobic organism.Routinely it is not cultured in anaerobic condition because it have contamination with normal flora. But the organism have the chance to be an anaerobe hence it is necessary to incubate in both conditions. The antibiotics present in the medium also helps to identify the organism.
