Yes everyone who observed the incident should report it, I am usually not a fan of a snitch, but in this situation if you do not report then you are a part of the problem. Not only is this gesture breaking hospital policies and The American Podiatric Medical Association Code of Ethics, but also is breaking the law with no consent from the second party involved. The pediatric resident may have had the same incident occur to her at one point therefore reporting could possibly effect her in a way. This may not be the first incident, so that being said I believe it should be reported to the licensing board to prevent it from happening again.

I believe once it is reported then it is the hospitals obligation to explain it to the patient and explain how we are going about handling it and also be prepared that the patient possibly may want to take legal action on the situation. I dont believe it needs to be reported to the police it didnt make it very far, maybe if there i had not called him out on it then it could have gotten worse, then maybe the police could be involved.

Agree or not and why?

Answer #1

Snitching is an illegal action and it has to be reported to the concerned authorities to prevent it from happening in the future. This not only puts a health professionals fame down but naturally affects the reputations of a healthcare firm. It forms a medicolegal case and this shoukd be reported to the police for investigation. Also it is not necessary to report the plan to the patient while handling the case doing so will lead to loss of hope among patient in regards to the hospital and its staff. It coukd be agreed only with the above certain cases.
