The doctrine of indemnification describes the legal things to be faced by an individual in case of any issues.This can be if the insurance amount exceeds the principle amount or an economic loss ,the insurer is responsible to pay the exceeding amount.This is the result of one's own action and hence held responsible by self

For example: if an individual commits a crime in sound mind ,he is responsible for the action .Hence a legal consequence has to be faced by the individual for his action.
