1.The assessment of severe sore throat,and a further diagnosis of streptococcocal pharyngitis ,his renal functions were obtained before starting ampicillin

2.Some of the questions which a nurse can ask patient before starting ampicillin are

  • History of any allergy to ampicillin or food
  • Is on empty stomach because this drug will act slow when meals are consumed
  • History of any past illness

3.The discharge plan should include the following

  • Take medicine in empty stomach (30minutes before Neal or 2 hours post meals)
  • No OTC drugs
  • Report in case of side effects
  • Do not skip medicine ,if done take it as soon as remembered ,if it is time for next dose skip the dose
  • In case of over dose call poison control center
  • Complete the course even when symptoms pager better

4.The additional patient teaching needed for this patient are

  • Health education of the disease condition
  • Patient response in regards to his renal function and antibiotics
  • Necessitate the importance of taking this medication daily without skipping
