Conservative and socialism are incorporated in the US political system as there are a variety of social welfare programs, funded, and in part, at least by the federal government, for example, programs like Medicare and Medicaid, are examples of "socialized medicine." The system of Veterans' Affairs (or V.A is also an example of a type of socialism.

"Conservatism" is a more loosely-defined concept than "socialism and the Republican party is basically a socially conservative party that supports the school prayer and oppose abortion and same-sex marriage.
