4.REQUIP (ROPIRINOLE)

Classification

It is a dopamine agonist (non ergoline dopamine agonist)

Indication for use

  • Parkinson disease
  • Restless leg syndrome

Normal Dosage

  • for Parkinson's disease (24mg/day ) in three divided doses as a maximum dose.
    • For first 1 to 2 weeks (2mg/day) in case of extended release tablet
    • For first 1 week 0.25 mg thrice a day ,then increased tom0.25 mg weekly after first week.After 4 week the dose can be increased unto 1.5mg/day
  • For RLS (4mg/day) is the maximum dose
    • For immediate release tablet take 0.25 mg/day before bed time (1 to 3 hours.After 2 days increase to 0.5 mg/day,after 1 week increase to 1mg/day)

  • Oral

Side effects

  • Gastrointestinal :nausea,vomiting, anorexia ,flatulence
  • Cardiac: tachycardia or bradycardia, orthostatic hypotension ,cardiac arrest, extrasystole,palpitations
  • Respiratory :dyspnea
  • CNS:syncope,dizziness,delusion,compulsive behaviour ,somnalescence
  • Sensory :glaucoma
  • Others:fatigue ,muscle pain, abdominal pain,hypersexuality

5.LANOXIN (DIGOXIN)

Classification

Cardiac glycocides

Indication and uses

  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Atrial flutter
  • Heart failure
  • Irregular heart beat
  • Abortion

Normal dosage

  • 0.125 mg or 0.25 mg everyday in case of heart failure
  • 0.125 mg to 0.25 mg everyday for atrial fibrillation

Route of administration

  • oral
  • Injection

Side effects

  • Digoxin toxicity
  • Gynecomastia in male patient
  • Nausea,vomiting, anorexia, diarrhoea
  • Dizxines,headache
  • Rash
  • Blurred vision

6.ULTRAM (TRAMADOL HCL)

Classification

Opiod analgesics

Indication and Uses

  • All types of pain
  • Post operative pain (abdominal, musculoskeletal )

Normal Dosage

  • Adult : 50mg /dose twice or thrice as per order
  • Paediatric :50mg orally
  • Immediate release :25mg every morning gradually increase not to exceed 400mg/day.In acute pain 50 to 100mg oral dose every 4 to 6 hours
  • Extended release: 100mg daily and increase gradually ,not to be more than 300mg/day

Route of administration

  • oral (tablet)
  • Injection (IM or IV)

Side effects

  • nausea,constipation ,dry mouth,indigestion
  • Vertigo,headache,insomnia,nervousness
  • Hives,rash,itching,severe perspiration
  • Sore eyes
  • Breathing difficulties
