Hypnotic are a group of drug which are sedative ,to be used with caution in elderly population .The main reason for selection of a hyponotic drug for an elderly patient is symptom based.Certain hypnotic have short half lives and others a long half lives.The documentation of hyponotic not effective in symptomatic treatment is wrong
