Measurement of length of short term nasogastric tube is :

* from the tip of the nose to pinna of the ear,

* and the pinna of the ear to xephoid sternum, continuously they have to measure.

* that is the exact length of the nasogastric tube.

Procedure of insertion of short term naso gastric tube :

* first we need to explain procedure to the patient.

* arrange all articles.

* place comfortable position to the client that is supine.

* wash the hands.

* take the help of assistant to open sterile ng tube.

* apply xylocaine jelly on tip of the tube,

* gently insert into the patient nose, and ask to client swallow it while inserting tube,

* then up to stomach we need to insert, by aspirating we can know it whether it is there are not in stomach.

* then check the tube in correct place or not by auscultation, that is take ten ml syringe air and push into tube, and listen the sounds simultaneously on stomach.

* and take one bowel of water and place tube in that abserve for air bubbles if no, it is in stomach, if bubbles are there it is in lungs.

* finally secure tube with plaster.
