What’s the Baermann technique used for and how does it work? Describe the procedure to perform this technique and give an example of a parasite that could be found using this technique.

BAERMANN TECHNIQUE

Baermann technique is the isolation of a nematode ,worms or larve by means of the Baermann appartus.

PROCEDURE

Wear disposable gloves and gown.Place 3-5g of faeces in the center of a large cheese cloth and tie it with a rubber band to form a pouch.Place it with in a tea strainer and suspended this in the funnel,add warm water to the funnel until the water covers the top of the faecal pouch.Leave it for 24 hrs.Open the stopper on the rubber tubing and collect 2ml of the filtered sediment in to test tube.Leave it for 30 minutes.Take 1-2drop of the sediment and place on a microscope slide with a cover slip.Examine under a light microscope at low power for larvae.

Wash hands clean all the equipment with 10% bleeching solution.
