Nominal GDP of Pakistan is $290 billion and the population of the country is 209 million. That translates to per capita income of about $1350 in 2019. Compare it with other South Asian peers, Bangladesh's per capita income is $1750.

The most astonishing fact about the Pakistan's economy is that its debt to GDP ratio is 85%, too high for a developing country as most of the federal budget is spent on servicing its debt.

By the Department of Finance’s own admission, the government came close to defaulting on its debt in 2013. As a result of these difficulties, the central government has found it difficult to attract buyers for its bonds and has turned to bank loans, IMF assistance, and intergovernmental loans in order to raise debt.

The country also faces constant shortage of foreign currency. The country runs a trade deficit, which results in a greater demand for foreign currencies in the Pakistan economy than the central bank can supply. When the government takes out loans from abroad, it increases the country’s foreign reserves.

The Pakistan government has needed to turn to other governments to help it supply sufficient foreign currency to keep the economy going.

As far as social condition in the country is concerned, it continues to face multiple sources of internal and external conflict. Although incidences of domestic terrorism have reduced, in part due to measures taken by the Pakistani state, extremism and intolerance of diversity has grown.

The growing extremism has been fueled by a narrow vision of Pakistan’s national identity, threatening the country’s prospect for social cohesion and stability. The inability of state institutions to reliably provide peaceful ways to resolve grievances has encouraged groups to seek violence as a legitimate alternative.

Furthermore, Pakistan’s high-profile disputes with neighboring India and Afghanistan have periodically resulted in violence and continue to pose a threat to regional and international security.

Pakistan has struggled with Islamic militancy since the rise of the mujahideen in the 1980s.It was only in the late 2000s, the Pakistan Army began establishing rehabilitation centers in the Swat Valley in an effort to deradicalize former Taliban fighters and other militants and reintegrate them into their communities.

Overall, we can say, that the country is not very stable, neither economically, nor socially.
