  1. What is meant by the DEA Drug Classification Schedule? Explain each category/classification.

Drugs are chemical substances which are use to treat disease or any injury of the body .These drugs are classified in 5 major categories on the basis of its acceptable medical use and its dependency potential .

The five schedule are :-

Schedule I :- These drugs are not accepted for medical use and have high potential for abuse . For example .heroin ,peyote ,methaqualone .

Schedule II:- These drugs also have high potential for abuse with use potentially leading to severe psychological and physical dependence . These are also considered dangerous . E.g cocaine methodone ,oxycodone .

Schedule III :- These are moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence .Abuse potential is less than Iand IIdrugs but more than IV. E.g. ketamine ,testosterine .

Schedule IV :- These have low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence .E.g.ambien ,tramadol ,talwin .

Schedule V :-These drugs have low potential for abuse less than IV and consist of preparation of limited quantities of certain nacrotics . These are generally used for antidiarrheal ,analgesic purpose . E.g .lomotil ,lyrica ,cough preparation with less than 200mg of codeine .
