The nurses who are working in an ambulatory care clinic are able to provide community health care by providing health education through direct approach to the patients in the population . Some of the approaches which has positive impact on reducing the development of hypertension are :-

- Losing Weight

Losing weight can help you reduce your overall blood pressure, by losing just 10 pounds you can reduce your blood pressure. Losing weight also makes any blood pressure medications you're taking more effective.

- Exercise regularly

You should at lest try and have 30-60 minutes of exercise most days of the week. This will lower your blood pressure by 4-9 millimeters of mercury.

- Eat a healthy diet

DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is a diet plan that aims to reduce your blood pressure. This diet consists of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skimps on saturated fat and cholesterol. Furthermore you should cut down the amount of alcohol you drink.

- Things to avoid

You should activity try and avoid tobacco products as well as second hand smoke. Caffeine is something else you should try and cut back on, and foods that are high in salt should try and be avoided.
