You are a nurse at a facility, you enter the room of a 400lbs white patient to administer her medication. She tells you she just had a bm in her briefs and needs a UAP to clean her up. You press the call light to get a UAP to help you and try to complete your documentation while you wait for the UAP, after a few minutes, a white UAP walks in and you both walk to the bedside to begin the task of changing the patient. The patient immediately yells for the white UAP to stop and tells her to go find a black UAP to come clean her up because it is their job and should she should not be doing this because she is white. Answer #1

1. Response to the patient by the nurse - that she should not behave in such a manner as it's against law to discriminate people based on the skin tone that only blacks have to do such kind of jobs. Every job has its respect and anyone can do any job based on its eligibility .

2. I will have a gentle conversation with the coworker and will explain him or her that we are nurses and our duty is to serve every needy patient. We should not disseminate or disrespect a patient if he or she have HIV . It's the right of every individual to get the treatment and it's our sole responsibility to serve others in their need .
