In 2009, CMS enacted the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act which included Meaningful Use. Meaningful use was put in place so that providers must show that they are using EHR technology in ways that can be measured significantly in quality and quantity. CMS recently overhauled Meaningful Use and renamed it “Promoting Interoperability.” What are the primary aspects of this program?

Promoting interoperability is one of the most recent feature of the Meaningful use which was created by CMS in order to encourage the health care givers inorder to signify proper use of EHR technology.

It was established in order to fulfill three main components. They are as follow:

1. In order to use certified EHR in relevant manner/ way

2. In order to interchange the patient's health information in such a way that it will enhance the care quality and is done through electronics

3. In order to use certified EHR to put forward the clinical quality and other related measures.
