Ans) A gynecological DNA test is a DNA-based test which looks at specific locations of a person's genome, in order to find or verify ancestral genealogical relationships or (with lower reliability) to estimate the ethnic mixture of an individual.

Advancements made 1983 in DNA testing:

- Advances in science allow forensic scientists to identify DNA samples from hair, bone, skin and tissue, and ever smaller amounts of blood and other body fluids.

- Today, biological evidence retrieved from a victim or crime scene can be examined at its most fundamental level—the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecule.

- The process, developed by Jeffreys in conjunction with Peter Gill and Dave Werrett of the Forensic Science Service (FSS), was first used forensically in the solving of the murder of two teenagers who had been raped and murdered in Narborough, Leicestershire in 1983 and 1986.

- There had been a series of rape-murders in Leicestershire in 1983 and 1986 and the authorities had a suspect named Richard Buckland in custody because he had confessed to the crime.
