The S1 sound is the first, systolic sound occurring due to the closure of mitral valve and trivuspid valve.It is heard best in the apex area.In case if it is not heard or visible on observation(for the movement ) the carotid pulsation is used as guide to assess the S1sound.The arterial upstroke can be palpated on the carotid artery which occurs during the first heart sound.Hence S1 coincides with carotid artery pulse
