PICO(T) :

PICOT questions are the formula for developing clinical answers and researchable questions.

P :   Population / Problem / Patient

I : Intervention / Indicator

C :    Comparison / Control

O : Outcome

T : ​​​​​​Time

How to develop PICO(T) Questions :

  • Patient/Population/Problem : Who are the patient or population? Think about age , sex, geographical details or what are the problems (diseases )
  • Intervention / indicator : Treatment / Management / Diagnostic tests or Explore
  • Comparison / Control : Any alternative management for comparison
  • Outcome : What are the results or consequences of intervention
  • Time : considering time /type of study

Example:PICO(T) Question for HIV

  • Population : High risk people for HIV
  • Intervention : Health education
  • Comparison : Counseling
  • Outcome : Reduce anxiety
  • Time : prior to the test

In the high risk people for HIV(Population) how effective it is to provide health education (intervention) or counseling (comparison) to reduce anxiety (Outcome) prior to screening test (time)
