Chablis’ mom is concerned that she is not eating right and her doctor wants you to give Chablis some nutrition advice because she wants to be a vegetarian. Chablis has heard that red meat contains a lot of fat and she “does not want to get fat.” A physical exam by her physician shows that Chablis is in the early stage of sexual maturation, she weighs 89 pounds, and she is 5 feet tall. Chablis is extremely active, spending every afternoon after school playing some kind of sport – basketball, swimming, track, or soccer.

a.Some of the questions which can be included in the assessment part are

  • How many meals do you eat a day? This gives a clear information on the dietary habits of the children and to rule out any medical conditions
  • What are the foods she prefers?This helps to plan for the nutritional chart
  • How long does she engage in sports?This enables to provide knowledge on how much calories are lost from the body and how much to be given
  • The child can be asked for bodily changes? As more nutrition is required during this stage

b.Chablis has to to given a brief knowledge on the vegetarian and Jon vegetarian food.Not all non vegetarian foods will lead to overweight or illness.Rather red meat is loaded with ample of nutrients like iron,selenium, zinc,vitamin B3,B6,B12 along with minerals.This nutrients are essential for a healthy growth at this stage of life.People avoiding this may have deficiencies related to it.Teen who indulge in sports needs the nutrient content from this food for good performance because it sides in muscle strength. Similarly the people following vegetarian food may lack thus essential nutrients.

c.She could be counselled in the following way

  • The desire to not get fat is good but at the same time it is necessary to stay healthy in accordance to the height ,weight and age
  • If not eaten the right portion of fat, initially the stored fat will be used during starvation and continuous depletion of this may lead to loss of muscle mass,looking skinny with health ailments and problems.
  • The body at this stage needs a lot of nutrients as their is increased metabolism at the age of 14
  • If she doesn't like non veg ,an healthy options of food to be followed in vegetarian foods with supplements
  • Avoiding the right choice of foods can lead to various health problems at an early stage.

d.Chablis parents has to be informed that she is underweight for her age .She should maintain weight around 114pounds .She should be incorporated with healthy foods likes vegetables, cereals,pulses,grains, sprouts, milk and milk products, water,supplements.
