Uterus is a hallow muscular female reproductive organ, flattened anteroposteriorly.

The uterus in the pelvic cavity is supported by number of structures namely surrounding organs, pelvic floor muscles and ligaments.

Ligaments that supports the uterus as below:-

Broad ligament:- Formed by double fold of peritoneum, one on each side of the uterus. These ligaments hands from uterine tubes and lateral ends attached to the pelvis.

Round ligament:- These are bands of fibrous tissue located between the two layers of broad ligament, on each side of uterus. They passes to sides of pelvis than inguinal canal and finally reaches labia majora.

Uterosacral ligament:- Originates from posterior cervical and vaginal wall and extends backwards.

Transverse ligaments:- Also known as cardinal ligaments extends from each side of cervix and birth canal to the sides of walls of pelvis.

Fallopian tubes also known as uterine tubes are about 10cm long and extends from each side pf uterus between fundus and body of uterus.

Functions of fallopian tubes are as below:-

• Secretions of uterine tubes nourishes ova and sperm during fertilization process.
• Uterine tubes propel ovum through its peristalsis and ciliary movement from ovary to the uterus.
• It's the place where the fertilization takes place. So fertilization also a main function of uterine tubes.
• Propels the zygote into uterus for implantation.
