10 year old Gabrielle Delacour has come to the Hogsmead Clinic accompanied by her older sister and guardian Fleur Delacour. You are a health care professional attending to your patient Gabrielle. Fleur asks why every time her sister Gabrielle has a sore throat, she also ends up having an ear infection.

1. How do you explain why this is happening to Gabrielle?

2. You assess Gabrielle and give her the appropriate ear drops. Fleur wants to know if she can use the ear drops at a cold temperature to relieve the earache. What is the best answer to her question?

When reviewing Gabrielle's chart, you see that she has a history of dizziness during previous ear infections. She had also been previously prescribed Anti-Vert, which she takes when she feels dizzy. Gabrielle tells you that she doesn't like to take it because she gets sleepy after taking the medication.

3. Would you tell Gabrielle that this sleepiness in normal? Why or why not?

4. Gabrielle tells you that she also experiences facial pain and frontal headaches that make her ear pain worse during the spring and summer months. How would you explain this phenomenon to her?

1.Ear infection are common in children, sore throat is one such condition in which the throat are infected and it spreads to ear easily causing infection and pain.If the pain is associated with sore throat it can be a sign of tonsillitis and further assessment is needed to diagnose and treat it.The infection caused by bacteria or virus in the throat can easily spread to ear and cause infection and pain

2.An ear drops should be instilled in room temperature or in a warm condition.Instilling in a cold temperature can aggrevate the earache.Rolling the medication bottle with the palms of the hands are sufficient to get the desired warmth to in still the medication

3.One of the common side effect of tte medication is drowsiness or sleepiness. It is normal while taking this medication and will settle down when the medication is stopped.

4.Facial pain,frontal headache,and ear pain are an indication of sinusitis or Summer sinus infection.This can be due to extreme weather ,the fluids are trapped into the sinus cavity caising infection, inflammation and pain.A simle home remedy like steam inhalation can help relive the symptoms .
