Describe the relationship between the AACN Essentials and your new-found knowledge about Patient Centered Care. Are there opportunities for you to improve?

My total score on the AACN Essentials Self-Assessment was thirty-two. I believe that I was not very good or excellent; rather, I was good or average at all the elements. I feel that leadership is where I am lacking the most. I believe that I have not fully attained that feeling of control of nursing practice that our reading discussed. Control of nursing practice is shared or unit-based decision-making environment. I feel that it is due to the feeling of still being the newbie on the block. As I reviewed the AACN Essentials, I was struck by the importance they placed on the patient and excellence in patient care. They emphasized high quality nursing care. The AACN Essentials also accentuated principles such as excellence in patient communication and accountability. Our textbook noted that Patient Centered Care involved patients being engaged in their care as well as open communication between nurse and patients (Finkelman, 2016). I feel that the relationship between AACN Essentials and the Patient Centered Care is interchangeable. Both seek to enhancement of communication between the health care team and the patient. in addition, they each strive to maket thepatient and their families feel as though they are part of the decision-making process and their care. Reviewing these concepts makes me more perfect in my skills and knowledgeable and it also will help me to improve me.
