#. Some findings which are subjective are :-

- feelings of sadness, emptiness and worthlessness, apathy, anxiety, pessimism, guilt, difficulty concentrating, negative thinking, suicidal thoughts, appetite and weight changes, sleep disturbances, aches and pain, loss of sex drive

Objective findings :-

social withdrawal, crying, low energy, lowered productivity.

#. A focused speciality assessment tool to screen the client for this condition is MSE with 5 domains . 5 domains of the MSE may be affected in an individual with depression are :-

General appearance- unkept/dirty

Speech- poverty, slowed OR rapid

Affect & mood- depressed, sad, irritable (may be a restricted range)

Thought content- pessimistic, guilt, low self-esteem, suicide ideation

Cognition- poor concentration, indecisive, In old age depression this may present as and overlap with cognitive decline/dementia.
