Nursing care

• Monitor the patient's vital signs as it gives baseline information
• Assess the patient for any seizure effect
• Assess the patient for nausea,vomiting, abdominal pain as it is the symptoms of toxicity
• Administration of medication as per order

Therapeutic procedures

• Activated charcoal is used to induce emesis and remove the drug of taken in less than hour .This procedure is called as gastric decontamination
• Intravenous fluids as supportive therapy
• Anti nausea medications
• Administration of N acetylcysteine which an antidote for acetaminophen overdose
• Check the serum acetaminophen level every four hours until normal levels are reached

Medications

• N-acetylecystine medication has to be administered
• Symptomatic treatment for nausea,vomiting, abdominal pain

Client education

• Educate the patient about the recommended dose a day in case of fever or pain
• Assess whether it is an accidental ingestion or an attempt to suicide, in that case provide psychological support, counselling to recover from the distress
• Inform patient to report any abnormal signs and symptoms after discharge
• Encourage not to self medicate or use any OTC drug

Interprofessional care

• Care has to be provided as a team including nurses,provider,medical toxicologist,hepatologist
• Psychologist in case of mental illness

Complications

• Liver failure
• Hepatotoxicity
• Coma
• Coagulopathy
• Metabolic acidosis
• Encephalopathy
