Alteration in health: cocaine toxicity
Risk factors: patients with cardiovascular disease, smugglers, body
packers
Expected findings: mydriasis, headache, bruxism, nausea, vomiting,
vertigo, tremor, tics, hypertension, increased pulse rate,
increased respiratory rate and depth, hyperthermia, euphoria,
elation, agitation
Laboratory tests: complete blood count, electrolyte, glucose,
calcium, arterial blood gas analysis, troponin, urinalysis.
Diagnostic procedure: toxicity evaluation of urine, blood, gastric
contents.
Safety considerations: to reduce CNS and cardiovascular effects of
the drug
Nursing care: check for signs of toxicity and after administration
of medication check if there is changes in the signs and
symptoms.
Medication: benzodiazepines, vasopressin, Nitroglycerine,
norepinephrine, thiamine and glucose
Client education: The client will have a strong prompt drug abuse.
So for this strong caution should be given to the client and seek
medical attention immediately if so.
Complication: homicide, suicide, motor vehicle collision.
Interprofessional care: The team of doctors, nurses, counsellors
work together to treat such patients.
