Answer #1

I

All the components are added in equal weights.

Weight of each component required to make 75 g ointment is 15 grams.

weight of each component required to make 1 g ointment = (component weight / weight of ointment)

which is (15/75) = 1/5 gm or 0.2 gm

weight of each component required to make 120mg ointment = 120 * component weight for 1mg ointment

which is 120*0.2 = 24 grams

So, 24gm of each component is required to make 120 gram ointment.

II

The final percentage concentration (w/w) of Triamcinolone in perianal ointment is =

( weight of Triamcinolone in ointment / weight of ointment) * 100

which is ( 24 / 120 ) * 100 = 20 % w/w

III

Weight of nystatin in perianal ointment of 120 mg is = 24 grams.

Amount of nystatin in one gram of ointment is 0.2 grams/ ml (as calculated in question I)

It is given that one gram nystatin contains 100,000 units.

Units of nystatin in 1 gram of perianal ointment = units of nystatin in 0.2 grams nystatin

which is (weight of nystatin in grams * units of nystatin in 1 gram) = 0.2 * 100,000

which is 20,000 units

So, 20,000 units of nystatin is present in 1 gram of perianal ointment.

IV

The given concentration of lidocaine ointment used in preparing perianal ointment is 5%.

It means 5 grams lidocaine drug is present in 100 grams of lidocaine ointment.

It means one gram of lidocaine ointment contains 0.05 grams of lidocaine.

The amount of lidocaine ointment present in 120 grams of perianal ointment = 24 grams (as calculated in question I)

Weight of lidocaine present in 120 gm perianal ointment = weight of lidocaine drug present in 24 grams component.

Which is 0.05 * 24 = 1.2 grams

which is 1200 grams ( as 1 gram = 1000 mg, 1.2 grams = 1200 mg)

So, 1200 milligrams of lidocaine will be contained in 120 grams perianal ointment.

This is a brief explanation. Hope this helps you out. Please feel free to give a like and contact us if you have any further queries. Thank you and have a great day.
