Medical coding:
It is a Universal medical alphanumeric code, it is a transformation of health care diagnosis, medical service, procedure and equipment use. It is medical record documentation for physician notes, lab tests, diagnosis, treatment, etc.
Purpose:
For accurate medical billing, coding is important to make payment for physicians and for the useful health history of the patient. As a coding professional we need to ensure the codes that should be applied correctly during the medical billing process, documentation, making correct codes, creating a claim for insurance patients.
It provides high-quality care for present and future visit for the patients. There is a lot of procedures, treatment, diagnosis, services needed for the patient for their disease condition. Medical coding makes an accurate classification for easy reporting and tracking.
As per the Health information portability ad Accountability Act(HIPAA), the common language is important, it allows hospitals, providers, payers to connect easily.

There is a type of codes used for different needs like
-International Classification of Disease, 10th edition, clinically modified(ICD-10-CM)
-Current procedural terminology (CPT)
-ICD-10-PCS
-Health care Procedure coding system(HCPCS)
-National Drug Codes(NDC)
-Medical severity Diagnosis-related Groups(MS-DRG)
-Ambulatory Payment Categories(APC)
