Answer #1

29 year old female complaints to health care provider that she feels urgency and frequency in urination & fever. After consulting physician she diagnosed as urinary tract infection and given antibiotic bactrium ds for 14 days that will be taken twice daily.

  1. Health care provider should ask more information other than urination details like she should as patient about her personal hygiene pattern especially perineal care etc. She should ask like whether patient used toilet in public places and all. She should ask about colour of urine whether its yellow or red in colour or any pus present or not because these all signs will be present in urinary tract infections. The amount water intake per day she should ask.
  2. CO-TRIMOXAZOLE 160+800 mg is prescribed , This is the proper dose advised by the physician, if needed means can reduce the dose for 400mg because patient will be taking twice daily and these medications will have lot of side effects.
  3. Side effects of these medications like rashes, itching, sore throat, shortness of breathing , unusual bruises leading to bleeding, fever and chills , cough , paleness and joint or muscle pain.
  4. Physician has prescribed the patient medications for 14 days, once the medications are over then can follow up visit can be done or any side effects occurs in between can visit as per that.
  5. Commonly bactrim ds is used as a first choice of drug for UTI, but these drugs will have lots of side effects so easily available drugs can be used like ceftriaxone or fosfomycin or norfloxacin and etc, Syp.citrleka is the best one to use during UTI as it eases the pain etc.
