Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder mostly seen in the adult. It is also known as Non-Insulin dependent diabetes Mellitus. It is defined as Increase blood glucose level in the blood due to resistance of insulin or body produce less amount of insulin. T2DM is known as the silent killer and is the greatest risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney disease. There are approximately 28 million people in the US affected by diabetes and 80 million people having prediabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is mostly associated with

  • Obesity
  • High sugar consumption
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Age(older adult)
  • Family history(genetic factor)

The cause of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is unknown but some research says that when our blood glucose level continuously rises, the beta cells of pancreas tends to produce more glucose to get the normal blood sugar level. if this process continuously repeated for years it can cause damage to the beta cells or may increase insulin resistance.

We all know that glucose is the ultimate source of energy for body cell but, insulin is helps glucose to enter into the body cell, it acts as a pathway for glucose. In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus body develop resistance to insulin or beta cells of the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to help glucose to get into cells so, blood glucose level continuously rises and cells starved for glucose.

Most people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus does not notice that they have the disease. the signs and symptoms include in early-stage are

  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive urination
  • Weakness
  • Numbness and tingling of the hand
  • yeast infection
  • Late healing

As the disease progressed it can cause neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy., and peripheral gangrene.

T2DM can be preventable by lifestyle modification like a healthy diet, less sugar consumption, quit smoking, reduce alcohol intake and physical exercise. People with diabetes can reduce complication through lifestyle modification.
