Answer #1

ANSWER.

20) Calculation of rate of infusion.

        Formula

              Rate(ml/hr) = Volume(ml) /Time(hr).

         Calculation of volume(ml).

              Formula =Desired dose(D) /Dose in hand (H) * Quantity(Q).

    Here

             Ordered dose = 5 mcg/kg/min.

Weight of the patient = 205 lbs.

Convert lbs to kg for calculation

                       1 lbs = 0.454 kg.

         Weight of the patient = 205 * 0.454

                                           = 93.07 kg.

              Desired dose (D) = 5 * 93.07

                                           = 465.3 mcg.

Convert mcg to mg for calculation

                            1 mcg = 0.001 mg.

         So

               Desired dose(D) = 465.3 * 0.001

                                           = 0.47 mg.

               Dose in hand (H) = 200 mg.

                      Quantity (Q) = 250 ml.

       As per above formula

                   Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                                 = 0.47/200 * 250

                                                                 = 0.002 * 250

                                                                 = 0.5 ml/min.

Convert ml/min to ml/hr by multiply with 60.

                                Rate (ml/hr) = 0.5 * 60

                                                     = 30 ml/hr.

21) Calculation of mcg/min patient is receiving.

        Formula

mcg/min = Rate / Volume of the bag * Total amount drug.

     Here

           Rate = 15 ml/hr.

Volume of the bag = 500 ml.

Total amount of drug = 50 mg.

    As per above formula

               mcg /min = 15 / 500 * 50

                               = 0.03 * 50

                               = 1.5 mg/hr.

                   Convert mg/hr to mcg/min

                            1 mg = 1000 mcg.

                             1 hr = 60 min.

             So

                           1.5 mg/hr = 1.5 * 1000 /60

                                            = 1500 / 60

                                            = 25 mcg/min.
