1. Transfusion
It is a procedure done in order to overcome blood loss that has occurred as a result of a disease, injury, or as a part of a major surgery. A person needs healthy blood for the proper functioning of the body. Healthy and right matching blood is obtained from a donor which is then transferred to the patient’s blood vessels. Thus, before transfusion is done, the blood of the patient and the donor is checked in order to ensure if the right matching healthy blood is transferred. Transfusions are normally safe procedures and the patient will be monitored throughout as well as after the procedure to avoid risks.
2. Infusion
It is a procedure during which a fluid other than blood is introduced into the body of the patient. This is done through veins of the body. Most often, this involves the introduction of certain drugs which are infused through vein rather than through mouth. Apart from drugs, glucose solution, saline solution, etc. are also infused.
