As you are reviewing the post-operative infection report you notice 3/4s of the post- operative infections could be traced back to one orthopedic group. Discuss how you would go about researching the causes of these post-operative infections and the ethical responsibility you have to determine corrective measures.

Firstly as a nurse manager it's mandatory to take effecting action to reduce postoperative infections as it may endangers patient life into serious complications.

1) Aging is the most important factors that influence postoperativeinfection.Identify the age group to rule out whether increased age is a contributing factor of infection in that group.

2) Nutritional assessment is needed for all patients in surgery department as debilitated client is at a higher risk of infection.

3) Rule out the underlying systemic diseases like Diabetes mellitus,Hypertension immunicompromised as there is an increased risk of infection .

4) Strictly monitor standard precautions followed by surgical staff and nurses while handling post operative patients.

5) Monitor OT environment like air parameters, pollution control measures, sterilization of OT equipments and supplies.

Corrective measures includes :

1) Periodical monitoring of OT environment,equipment and supplies should be done. Air surveillance report should be monitored periodically.

2) Strict adherence to universal standard precautions by health care professionals.

3) Practicing strict aspetic techniques during surgical wound dressing.

4) Reporting superficial surgical site infections at the earliest

5) Monitoring Antibiotic administration to prevent Antibiotic resistant.
