Nurses play a significant role in patient care. Nursing history helps to better understand the political advocacy, development of nursing education, and nursing movement. Nursing history provides a way to improve quality practices in nursing care. Nursing Leaders struggled a lot in establishing nursing organizations and to develop standards for nursing practice. They also involved in health care reform and policy changes. Thus today's nurse must understand the political advocacy are made by nursing leaders to protect nurses safety standards.

Florence Nightingale advocates initiating a change in nursing history. She overcomes the gender bias and founder for nursing theories. During the Civil war, the Nursing profession changed into individualized care. It promotes nursing training program. In 1873, Boston training school, and Newyork training began which promotes nursing educational programs. Then the hospital-based nursing education began in the mid-twentieth century. Later, in the 1890s, National League of nursing education, Alumnae of United states made profound changes and lead to nursing advocacy.
