Nurse can advocate patients in many ways they can help patients to take decisions regarding health issues, assisting them to know about complex medical system, to make ethical decisions and to medical term translation. Because of the direct interaction with patients, nurses gets the position of advocates. When nurses successfully advocate for their patients, to heal and get well soon.

The following are basis of nursing advocacy: preserving human dignity, patient equality and freedom from suffering.

The following are some examples of advocacy techniques and strategies:

  • Knowledge and clarity of information that patients need.
  • Providing information to patients clearly and in the way of they can understand.
  • Respect people’s wishes and thoughts.
  • Encourage patients to make their own choices about their healthcare
  • Advocacy in nursing is always for quality care and patient satisfaction.

Prelicensure education are adequate, contains teaching and learning activities that are focused on patient safety and offer the changes with an emphasis on integration of instructional strategies that develop skill set of nurse for clinical reasoning and judgment. This makes nurse to act as perfect advocate.
