Medical terminology has extensive and rich history of latin and Greek language. When the Roman conquired Greece around 400,the knowledge and language of both culture mereged resulting in new medical concept regarding disease treatment. Much of the medical term we use today is attributed to Hippocrates, who considered father of medicine.

The medical word contains

  1. Word root: It is the basic element of a word. Whole word or part of word comes from different language mainly greek and latin

Eg:Bronch-Bronchus

2. Combining form :when root combined with vowels usually "o" occasionally "e" or "i".

Eg: Bronch+i/o/u=bronchus

Chlor/o=chloro (green)

3. Prefix : word component placed infront of word which change or modify word meaning.

Eg:Ab:away from midline

Acu:needle

Auto :self

4.suffixes: It is a word component added to the end of root /word that change or modifies it usage, function and meaning

Eg:desis :surgical fixation

ectomy :excision
