One to two-page Paper (double spaced, standard margins) describing the three branches of US government and the role of each, including a description of the system of checks and balances.
Checks and balances are different procedures that are set up to reduce errors, avoid improper behavior or reduce the risk of power centralization. Generally checks and balances ensure that no one person or agency has absolute control over decisions, clearly defines the tasks assigned, and demands collaboration to complete tasks. The term is most widely used in government environments.
The United States government exercises checks and balances through its three branches: the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The U.S. government conducts checks and balances in the following ways. First, the legislative branch is the government's part that makes legislation, but the executive branch grants the president veto power, allowing the president to hold the legislative branch under check. Therefore, the judicial branch, the part of government that enforces the laws enacted by the legislative branch, may find those laws unconstitutional to make them void.
Executive over the division of the judiciary. All federal judges
are appointed by the President.
Legislative over division of the Executive. The legislative branch
must approve the President's appointments; the Senate must approve
the president's treatjes; and the executive branch may be
investigated by the legislative branch. Legislative on branch of
the judiciary.. The legislative branch must authorize the judicial
branch's presidential appointment of judges; can recommend
constitutional amendments to reverse judicial decisions.
Legislative over the executive arid judicial branch The legislative
branch has powers of impeachment over all federal officers.
