We see the drug risperidone prescribed for people with dementia, but the FDA has not approved it for this use. Why do you think it is used? Do you think it is a helpful treatment option for someone who is at home with a caregiver? It is also used for children with ADHD. Has this been approved by the FDA? What precautions are necessary with the drug when used for this population?

Answer: Risperidone is used in people having dementia as it has resulted in lowering the agitation, hallucinations in the patients. This drug lowers or decrease the confusion, hallucinations as well as aggressive behavior of the patient. So, it should be given to the patients suffering from dementia.

Resperidone is given to children with ADHD to treat their Abruptive behavior. It has been approved by the FDA in the year 2003 as it found to be effective in controlling the patient's tantrums and bipolar mood.

Precautions must be taken for this drug as it should not be taken with ranitidine. If any kind of symptoms occurs such as fever, abnormal pulse rate, patient should consult doctor.
